Painted in watercolour, this scene is of my local Donegal Cliffs. The Atlantic waves are slamming in after a storm at sea. I am always hypnotised by the waters movement and the areas of dark and light. The Atlantic gives much viewing joy, I find that no two evenings ever offer the same view.

On the banks of the River Crana in Co Donegal, a solitary heron stands poised—still as stone, alert for the flicker of a fish or eel beneath the surface. This original watercolour captures that delicate tension between movement and quiet, nature’s theatre played out in soft washes and fluid strokes.

A piece of France, the light was bouncing off the vine leaves, so I had to try to capture the bright colours and gnarled branches in watercolour.
